On 12 September 2017, the Theological University of Apeldoorn (TUA) and the Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary (PRTS) (Grand Rapids, USA) entered into a strategic partnership, which resulted in the establishment of a 'Research Center Puritanism and Piety' and a joint double-degree programme (PhD). This collaboration stems from the desire of both TUA and PRTS to share their knowledge and insight worldwide in the service of church and science.
The Research Center Puritanism and Piety strives to serve as a centre for research, education and publication in the fields of puritanism, further reformation and pietism. The aim is to develop links with the academic world in Europe and the United States. The primary means that the research centre intends to use for this purpose is a digital learning environment for research, education and publication, in which sources and secondary literature are published, together with practical material, that enables the reader to examine puritanical ideas in a useful, meaningful manner. Research Center Puritanism and Piety can be accessed online via www.prc.prts.edu.
TUA and PRTS want to support each other in the double-degree programme and share responsibility in the area of supervision, coordination and examination of the work of a researcher in obtaining a doctoral degree. Students who have been admitted to the joint programme receive a double degree. The joint doctoral programme aims to serve as a research, teaching and publication programme for Biblical and historical theology, and to develop links with the academic world in Europe and the United States.
