D.A.M. (Rieneke) Sonnevelt (Rotterdam, 1983) studied Linguistics at VU University Amsterdam (BA 2009) and attended classes in Hebrew Language and Culture at the University of Amsterdam during that time. She specialised in Hebrew and Aramaic within the Research Master 'Structure and Variation in Languages of the World' at Leiden University (MA 2012). Meanwhile, she taught English part-time in secondary schools for several years (2008-2013). Her PhD research focuses on the role of Aramaic in Babylonia during the Neo-Babylonian and Persian periods (her supervisors are Prof C. Waerzeggers and Dr M.L. Folmer from Leiden University). Since 2016, she has regularly taught Hebrew and Aramaic BA/MA in Ancient Near Eastern studies in Leiden. As of 1 August 2023, she has been a part-time lecturer in Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic at Apeldoorn Theological University.
